This article was about a little boy that called 9-11 because his mother needed help and had collapsed. However, the operators thought these were prank calls so did not take them seriously. As a result, the mother died. The two women operators were suspended, however are now back at work. I think that this is ridiculous. These women should not be allowed back at work. Their mistake caused someone to lose their life. If you are in this field, it is your responsibility to take all calls seriously.

I completely agree. How could they just ignore the call twice? I understand that kids make prank phone calls all the time to the police, but how often do they say their mom is on the floor not moving? It would be a harsh trick if done in jest by a teen, but a five year old would not joke like that. They should have taken it seriously.
I heard about this incident the day it happened and I was devistated. It is the dispatchers duty to inform the police when a call like this comes in. Many parents are now beginning to teach their children at a young age what to do in case of an emergency, and when an emergency does occur and the child reacts in the right way he is punished for it. His mother died right before his eyes, and for this I agree with Katie and Nicole, they should not get their jobs back!
My daughter called 911 once "by accident" (yeah, right!) and I found out about it because the police called right back because they had received a hang up call. The least these ladies could have done is call the house back and try to talk to the mother. Maybe then they would have caught on. Were they too busy polishing their nails?
This is a sensless tragedy that could have been prevented. Those women do not need their jobs back, they should never be allowed to work for the city again. Personally a year in jail is not long enough time spent. It is their duty not job to take every 911 call serious. My son has called 911 before and the same thing happened they called right back to see if there was an emergency. These women obviously don't take their roles in the community serious at all. My heart goes out to that little boy, who now has to live without his mother.
